We recently posted a piece comparing the neighborhood beer garden, Franklin Park to its new competitor establishment, Washington Commons in Prospect Heights. From the comments section on the post, it seems that while Franklin Park boasts a “better outdoor space [and] nicer bartenders”, Washington Commons has a larger selection of beers.
Since one of our hopes here at NP is to promote local, Crown Height’s businesses, we certainly would not want folks to be disappointed with the neighborhood’s offerings (though, by all accounts Franklin Park is anything BUT disappointing). Then, lo and behold, we happened upon a fairly new shop offering retail and wholesale quantities of “Beer. Water. Ice. and Lots More Beer.” The establishment, Brooklyn Beverage Barn (which is the family-friendly version of their other name, Brooklyn Beer Barn), has apparently been in the neighborhood for about a year. It is located at 1423 Bedford Avenue (at Prospect).
According to the manager that we spoke with, what makes the space different than just a regular bodega is its selection of beers, particularly its variety of craft beers. This NP staffer is not a drinker of ale, so can’t comment on the selection, but their website indicates that they sell over 500 different
brands of beer. At the very least, the beer/beverage barn sports a pretty neat industrial-warehouse-meets-clean-bodega-feel that’s worth scoping out. At wholesale prices, it’s probably a good place to stock up for all those BBQs and parties that you are going to be inviting us to this summer.
