On the heals of Prospect Heights’ recent designation into the ranks of historically landmarked neighborhoods, comes yet one more reason to appreciate the neighborhood: the folks at Heart of Brooklyn have produced a one-stop shopping guide for everything Prospect Heights (with a healthy sprinkle of Crown Heights)…
One-Stop Shopping for Everything Prospect Heights
Heart of Brooklyn, a partnership of the leading cultural institutions located near Grand Army Plaza in central Brooklyn, today announced a new publication for residents and visitors of its cultural campus. Extraordinary Places in the Heart of Brooklyn, released today, is a new guide to the dining, shopping, service and nightlife opportunities in Prospect Heights, one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Brooklyn and the newest landmarked district in New York City.
Conveniently anchored by the Heart of Brooklyn cultural district of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park and Prospect Park Zoo, Prospect Heights offers residents and visitors alike an array of vibrant shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. TheExtraordinary Places brochure, published in collaboration with theWashington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association and the Vanderbilt Avenue Merchants District, provides information on more than 150 businesses , from acclaimed restaurants to designer boutiques, located near Heart of Brooklyn’s cultural campus. Despite the current economic downturn, many new businesses have come to the neighborhood in recent months (two in September alone), and more will open this fall. Heart of Brooklyn has collaborated with small businesses old and new, from historic Tom’s Restaurant to brand-new bar Washington Commons, to promote this unique commercial and cultural district, especially as merchants weather these tough economic times.
“Prospect Heights embodies the best of authentic Brooklyn,” said Heart of Brooklyn’s Director, Ellen Salpeter. “Heart of Brooklyn is delighted to be working with the merchants and business owners in our community to highlight the unique commercial corridors that are easily accessible from our cultural campus. Through the publication of the Extraordinary Places brochure, we are working to strengthen the connections between art, culture and community in our neighborhood of Prospect Heights.”
The Extraordinary Places in the Heart of Brooklyn brochure and area map is an essential guide to one of Brooklyn’s most exciting neighborhoods. It is available now at Heart of Brooklyn’s community office and member institutions, at local businesses, and at tourism centers across New York City including the Brooklyn Tourism and Visitors Center at 209 Joralemon Street. The Extraordinary Places in the Heart of Brooklyn merchant guide has been generously funded by The Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, the New York City Department of Small Business Services, TD Charitable Foundation, and Bank of America, with additional support provided by New York City Council Member Letitia James and New York State Senator Eric Adams.
