NP Update 3/8/10 5:49 a.m.: Only a few hours to go and a few dollars short …
****
More evidence regarding our theory about the growing art scene in Crown Heights is starting to take shape. Nick, from the I Love Franklin Ave blog, just reported that a new community art space is making it’s way to Crown Heights – that is, if they can raise enough money to make it happen.
There are more details on ILFA, but the long and the short of it is that some socially-minded entrepreneurs are seeking pledges to open a community art space (including garden) in Crown Heights – on Franklin Avenue near Park Place. Some ideas that they have for the space: art exhibits, music events, poetry slams, books clubs, etc. This is a great way to combat a big complaint residents voiced about the neighborhood – that it lacks community spaces (too true!!). Definitely support this project! We’ve already put in our pledge.
This news also comes on the heels of ILFA’s announcement that the Breukelen Coffee House will be hosting an art show in their shop in February. Be on the look out for this – our co-blogger and photographer extraordinaire (if we do say so ourselves) Jennifer Macchiarelli will have her work featured in the show!
