Spread Love, It’s The Brooklyn Way

Sheena Hisiro, Candice Chetta, Doug Angleton, Aaron Coteler

This Friday, February 5th, Breukelen Coffee House will unveil, “Spread Love, It’s The Brooklyn Way,” their first art-exhibition of 2010.  Curated by Candice Chetta, a recent bay-area transplant who lives right above BCH, this exhibit represents a graduation ceremony of sorts for Chetta’s recently completed  crash-course in Brooklyn’s art-scene, while also serving as a precursor to Chetta & BCH’s proprietors bold vision of how they intend on collaborating in order to incorporate the visual arts into their growth strategy.  In an area that features vibrant murals, well-known art-galleries, and dozens of colorful characters, the walls of many area businesses are surprisingly often muted.  Chetta is intent on not only making sure that BCH never falls prey to this epidemic, but to also making sure that they turn the volume up even louder on their walls.

With her partner in crime, published-mixologist and musician Aaron Coteler at her side, Chetta has set out to curate a series of art-cocktails for BCH destined to make even the most aloof art-enthusiast’s knees buckles.  As she reminded the trio of artists who’s work will make their BCH debut on the 5th, in ‘in Brooklyn we go hard’–a sentiment clearly evident in the passion that these artists bring to their work, their appreciation for the county of Kings, and the time and effort they have committed to making this exhibit a success.

Friday’s opening will feature work by Doug Angleton, Sheena Hisiro, Jennifer Macchiarelli and Michael Sorgatz.  Rather than petition BCH to show her own work, Chetta instead opted to “spread love [because after all] it’s the brooklyn way” and invite these four dynamic artists to present their work.  This eclectic quartet is made up of artists harnessing the transcendental possibilities of photography, painting and illustration to breathe life into matters that most others might often overlook.

Spread Love, It’s The Brooklyn Way opens on Friday February 5th with a reception from 8pm – 12am and will run for three months.  Breukelen Coffee House is locate at 764A Franklin Ave (between St Johns Pl & Sterling Pl) Brooklyn, NY 11238 (718) 789-7070
