Anyone walking on Nostrand yesterday afternoon was likely surprised to find a gaggle of police cars and news crews along this commercial strip.
Within moments it became evident that this wasn’t an impromptu census filing party. Instead as news reports began surfacing, residents found out that after weeks (or rather years) of community appeals the police were on-hand for one of the more successful drug raids on Nostrand in recent memory. Tuesday afternoon’s police raid yielded eight arrests and left a half-dozen businesses along the strip shuttered.
It will be interesting to see what comes about in the aftermath of this raid. Will there be follow up efforts in other areas in the nabe where drug trafficking is prolific? Will this raid inspire more residents to speak up, or is this raid an isolated incident?

Seems like movement in the right direction.
I am shocked though. I Never saw any drug activity in the stores i visited.
It’s mind blowing to think this was an “open secret” that I was oblivious to.
I wonder what “finally” prompted these drugs raids. Is there an upcoming election?
All I know is this:
It’s going to be a long summer if the “regular customers” of these spots can’t find an alternative location.
These spots have been operating openly for the last 10 years.
