Experience Crown Heights History

It was standing room only at Launchpad in last night’s listening festivities for the Crown Heights Oral History Project. And for those like me – who were not able to make it out when the event began – you were standing outside.  So, unfortunately, I only caught bits and pieces of what was being said.  However, I noticed (from outside looking in while the rain was pouring down on me) Nick from I Love Franklin Ave had a great seat so we will have to stay tuned to his blog to get the full account.

Fortunately, What I do know, however, the room was energized and buzzing.  And in almost every private conversation that I overhead, people were saying how stellar the project was.   Having met, and even co-blogged with these young ladies, I have to say that I expected that nothing less than the best would come from these bright young stars.   And of course kudos to Ms. Alexandra Kelly – the girls’ mentor – who I know put in a lot of hard work and hours (and even quit her job) so that she could dedicate her time to making this project a success.

I managed to cut through the crowd of people and speak with the girls afterwards – and they were beaming from ear to ear about how well received their project was.  It was great to see.

Shout out to Crow Hill Community Association, which supported this projected; Super Wings, who catered the event, and Mike, owner of Launchpad who donated the space, and as we learned later, generously help purchase the listening devices!
