Crown Heights Burger Off!

I’m curious why there hasn’t been more of a buzz about Joey’s Gourmet Lunchboxx.   The food is delicious, the prices are very reasonable, there is wi-fi, outdoor seating, air conditioning … and plus they now deliver! All the things that we gentrifiers love.  Now granted, some of their workers might need some customer service 101 training, but again they deliver, so that takes care of that.  Maybe it’s because it’s on Nostrand and not on Franklin … who knows…

In any event, above is a picture of my half eaten Hawaiian Burger and fries.  Yumm!  The burger (angus) is crumbly delishousness (yes, I made up that word just for this burger), packed with flavor and topped with a grilled pineapple and a “Caribbean sauce”.  The whole meal was priced at $6.70.

Now, my love affair with this burger got me to thinking about a burger off.  Maybe something informal similar to the jerk chicken off or  coffee off that we did a while back.  Or maybe something more elaborate like the wing off that garnered Super Wings the crown of the best wings in Brooklyn.  But which neighborhood restaurants do you think should go head to head?  Are there even that many to choose from?  Weigh in in the comments section.

Note – we already mentioned the idea of a burger off to the owner of Joey’s and he is very excited to participate.  Even willing to give out free samples for folks.  But even if we can’t convince other owners , maybe we can just do an unofficial Nostrand Park Burger Off poll … you know how we do!  If you’re interested in having us pursue this, let us know!!

  2. I’ve had burgers at Teddy’s on Washington, Bristen’s and Dutch Boy on Franklin . . . and of course James over there toward Park Slope. I’m always up for a good burger. These days I think I’d lean towards Bristen’s but thanks for cluing me in to Joey’s!

a burger off sounds like a great idea. and i think that joeys would mos def hold their own. the buns alone would disqualify dutch boy burgers. they are HORRIBLE.

I’ll put anybodys jerk chicken head to head with McKenzies on Utica Ave, if you want a good food competition. Utica Ave area is a Chicken neighborhood. No burgers here

Hmmm, Kevin. I don’t know. I’m going to have to try McKenzies, cause Exquisite’s and Feeding Tree’s jerk chicken on Nostrand are type delicious. Where on Utica?

Superwings recently entered and won something along these lines re: Wings.

    …burgers could work as well.
