Brooklyn, New York - July 7, 2010 – Weeksville Heritage Center, an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the 19th century African-American community of Weeksville, is bringing two up and coming artists – Valerie June and Kameron Corvet – to The Garden Party on July 10.
All events are FREE and take place outdoors in one of NYC’s most unique venues – The Weeksville Garden (1698 Bergen Street between Buffalo Avenue and Rochester Avenue, Brooklyn). The July 10th program will include music by Valerie June and Kameron Corvet starting @6pm and the films from our Small Medium Large series screening @ 8pm. The vendors for this event are Goobie Dust Confections & Kem’s Jerk.
Music: Valerie June / Valerie June is a true original and an emerging star in the Memphis music scene. A self-taught guitar and banjo player, composer and troubadour of heartbreak ballads, folk songs, spirituals, soul-stirring blues and what she calls “Organic Moonshine Roots Music.” Valerie seeks to preserve traditional music. Music: Kameron Corvet / The Cincinnati-born, Atlanta-based singer/songwriter gained international recognition with his first release Sayingthings in 2006. His mix of smooth soul and thoughtful lyrics combine the sweet sultry vocals of Maxwell and the literary class of Sting. Just back from a tour of France, Kameron Corvet, proves that there is always room in rock music for a young man with soulful vocals and compelling lyricism.
Vendor: Goobie Dust Confections / Kamillah Duggins makes delicious home made vegan desserts including pies, brownies, cupcakes, cakes and candies.
Vendor: Kem’s Jerk / Kem brings a gourmet selection chicken and fish BBQ’d with Pimento and his original hand made Jerk Seasoning.
Films shown will be a selection from our curated Small Medium Large film series.
