For those fed up with the shootings in the neighborhood, Crown Heights Community Mediation Center (the same group that commissioned the powerful anti-gun violence mural last year) is spearheading an anti-gun violence initiative in the neighborhood called S.O.S. – Save Our Streets.
They held a meeting last week regarding the recent shooting on Eastern Parkway and Schenectady, and there will be a meeting on July 28th about the recent shooting that happened on Franklin Ave and Park Place.

Sadly, I walked by 2 police officers yesterday standing on the corner of Franklin and Lincoln, mocking these posters out loud in a whiny voice. ” Don’t shoot I want to grow up, sos crown heights wah wah wah”. It’s pathetic. They act like the whole thing is a joke. A few months ago, I overheard 2 policemen laughingly tell the owners of the salon on Franklin at Park Place “Don’t worry ladies, we’ll keep your store safe.” These attitudes are despicable. It’s one thing to be a rookie, it’s another to act like you’re in junior high.
