Syd’s Serious Sandwich Shop to Open on Nostrand!
Yes folks … the news just keeps on coming. Just found out that a new sandwich shop will be opening on Nostrand Ave. soon. Syd’s Serious Sandwich Shop.
We met the dynamic owner, Sydney, and he is truly serious about his sandwiches. As the 2005 champion of the Brooklyn Public Library’s popular business plan competition, he is dedicated to nothing less than a top quality sandwich and shop.
Sydney is a resident of Crown Heights by way of Philadelphia. So it only makes sense that the star of his menu will be none other than an authentic (Philly) cheese steak. We mention the Philly part parenthetically because, as Sydney pointed out, “in Philly they don’t call them Philly cheese steaks, they are just cheese steaks”, so since this is going to be real deal authentic, he’s nixing the regional reference. Syd says these sandwiches will be line out the door good. We certainly hope so.
Sydney says that he will host a series of Syd’s Serious Sandwich Shop sampling soirees (say that 5 times fast) for folks to try out some of the sandwiches and offer feedback. Can’t wait. The opening date is still in “coming soon” status. But be sure to keep checking into NP for updates.

this could cause me to walk to Nostrand for a massive sandwich on Saturdays. I presently walk to Bergen and 6th ….the location of City Sub.
How do I get on the list for sandwich tastings? I’m from Philly, too.
hey folks I’ve only been to Syd’s twice but I’m already borderline obsessed. Syd’s really IS serious about making great sandwiches. Good stuff for reals.
