Just when folks started to rejoice at the apparent victory over the closing of the pawn shop on Franklin Ave, we just get the following news from the Crow Hill Community Association that the pawn shop is back with avengence:
Imagine our shock and dismay to see this yesterday.
What audacity to use “Crow Hill” in their business name!
And now, today they are painting the brick wall bright purple!!!
Claiming they are not a pawn shop, they are clearly planning to open.DOB can not come out to investigate the zoning issue until they have actually opened,
but they are looking into why the construction complaint has not been answered.http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/ComplaintsByAddressServlet?requestid=1&allbin=3031105
Crow Hill on the other hand has taken seriously the three issues of concern that were raised the day of our October protest:
1. lack of legitimate credit opportunities
2. lack of job opportunities
3. unfair housing practicesWe invited Assembly Member Jefferies to speak at our October meeting about fair housing practices and a housing initiative was formed to partner with his office & Council Member James in their efforts to gather information regarding unjust housing practices in the community.
November’s meeting will focus on credit opportunities in our community: see attached flier for details and at our January meeting we will address employment concerns by bringing in representatives from various agencies that provide job assistance.
We will keep you posted on any developments and if you have any suggestions regarding what course of action we should take next, please contact us.
