We blogged back in May about a new Supermarket slated to open in the summer of 2010, across the street from the new affordable housing project, on St. Marks Ave between Classon and Franklin Ave., in the old radiology building that was once a part of the Interfaith Hospital.
Summer’s come and gone, but finally the supermarket has slowly begin to show signs of opening – perhaps next month according to one of the workers! A sign hanging outside the site urges residents to visit it’s website at www.comparesupermarkets.com
Has anyone ever heard of Compare Foods Supermarket?
Their website states: “Since 1989, Compare Foods has provided our communities with the freshest quality of foods, the best service to our customers, along with the lowest prices available.”
We hope they live up to that statement and are an additional option for healthy affordable food in the neighborhood.

I only just recently heard of them, worried about the Walmart coming to East New York: “It’s like David and Goliath. Walmart’s a multibillion-dollar corporation, and we’re just a small business. We cannot compare with the prices,” said Arturo Payambs, 28, owner of a Compare Supermarket a few blocks away from the site.

Compare is a famous ethnic supermarket all over NY and many other states. They’ll usually replace a Bravo, Met, Foodtown etc. They are all over NYC also. Guess this is just the first you are seeing of them.
