Always nice to see pretty things like this in the hood.   We’ve passed by this bed of sunflowers growing from the concrete sidewalk on Sterling Place between Bedford and Franklin countless times.  We finally decided to snap a shot.

Given the number of sunflower seeds that are eaten and randomly discarded around these parts (those who take public transportation will be familiar with this phenomenon), we wonder if this was intentionally done, or the product of some negligently discarded seeds   In any event, enjoy!

And if you ever have any photos of the neighborhood that you would like to share, just send them in.

The awning for the new burger joint on Franklin Avenue – which we blogged about a while back - went up earlier this week.  And about just as cool as the news of this new awning, is our photographer, Abeni G.’s, photo technique capturing the old time feel of the venue – if we do say so ourselves.  Click image to enlarge.  We didn’t speak with the owners (who also own Franklin Park) but undoubtedly the name, “Dutch Boy Burgers” is a homage to the Dutch Boy Paint shop that used to exist in the location.  We can’t wait to try it out!

The great thing about photography is learning to see the little things. I have a very understanding wife who is used to me taking photos of everything whenever we go somewhere. What drives her nuts, though, is when I stop to take a photo of a drain cover or manhole cover or, even worse, stuff I see on the sidewalks and roads. Especially things that are embedded in the asphalt or odd things captured in cement. Here’s a collection of photos taken on Park Place.
